WHY I AM

Alessia BAGATTIN

Researcher

I am a molecular biology enthusiast with a particular interest in gene regulation and epigenetics. I obtained a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of Padua, Italy. I then undertook a postdoctoral position at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA, in the laboratory of Elisabetta Mueller, where I uncovered a novel role for the transcriptional coactivator PGC1α in peroxisomal remodeling and biogenesis during metabolic stress. I then joined Marco Pontoglio’s laboratory in Paris, where I focused on the bookmarking properties of HNF1β, a critical transcription factor involved in kidney development and disease. In February 2024, I joined Florent Ginhoux’s lab to work with the “organoids team,” led by Claudia Pasqualini. In this new journey, I apply my scientific expertise to the molecular characterization of brain organoids. Specifically, I utilize cutting-edge techniques such as spatial transcriptomics/proteomics, gene modulation, CRISPR editing, and light-sheet microscopy to study the interactions between macrophages and neural/glial cells or cancer cells. Our goal is to better understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying brain development and cancer progression.
